Thunderbolt S3T Touring
Canoga Park, California
This is a rare example of the early tube-framed Buell Thunderbolt S3T, the 'T' which stands for Touring, as it came with the optional hard-case saddlebags and mounts, as well as the zippered pouches in the front fairing recesses. The 'T' handlebars are slightly higher and wider than on the pure sports models, for more comfort over the long haul. I've included many detail photos, as well as the overall machine with and without the saddlebags, which are quickly detached or refitted. The look is quite different, but awesome both ways. The factory-original Emerald Green paint is stunning, and shimmers with a slight bluish tint in the sunlight. Not a lot of green motorcycles out there these days and this one really stands out.
The Buell starts at the touch of the starter button and idles nicely, and runs great. It's a real torque-monster and pulls like a freight train and sounds fantastic through its Vance & Hines exhaust system. The clutch and gearbox work smoothly and properly. The electrics all work, the tires are barely worn, the battery is fresh and strong. Ready to ride anywhere!
The cosmetic issues are as follows: The bike had a driveway topple many years ago, which scratched/gouged the left-side saddlebag cover, and left a small crack in the fairing at the mirror mount. The crack was repaired as can be seen in the closeup photo. I repaired the saddlebag cover myself as it wasn't done and had some primer spots on it. I filled/sanded and painted it in the closest color I could find, as can be seen in another detail shot. In some lighting you don't even see it, but I wanted to show that repaired area clearly to you. The right-side cover has a couple of scratches on its top edge that were touched up prior to my purchase. You might even choose to ride the bike without the bags mounted most of the time anyway.
The California title is clear, in my name, on Non-Op, no back fees required. Included are the original owner's manual, workshop manual, accessory catalog and even a copy of Eric Buell's book about his vision and his bikes, "The Naked Truth." Also included is a spare key. Both keys are the originals to the bike and operate all locks, including ignition, saddlebags and seat. The Thunderbolt is a handsome near-classic (it's old enough to drink!), with only 28M well-maintained miles by one enthusiast owner.
This is one turnkey, ready-to-ride machine. See cold-start video here:
