Up for auction is a 1983 Harley Davidson XR1000. This is a very special edition motorcycle that has a production number of just 1000 units in 1983, and approx 700 units in 1984. This motorcycle was created to pay homage to the great XR750 models of the previous era. However, this bike has a Sportster lower end with custom ported and polished heads that were sent to Jerry Branch's shop in southern California before they were sent back to Milwaukee and fitted to the barrels. In addition to the head work, titanium collars were added to the double-sprung valves, that were larger than stock. This gave the new model a reported 70 hp @ 5600 rpm, all breathing through a pair of 36mm Del Orto pumpers on the right, passing the spent air through the high mounted pipes on the left. This model shows just over 6500 original miles and retains the stock tags on the carbs, and warning labels on the wheels. For safety purposes, we removed the original tires, date coded for the period, and replaced them with stock Harley Davidson Dunlop tires. The original units will be included in the sale of the new owner wishes to keep them. The new owner will find very minor wear, commensurate with the age an mileage of the bike. This is truly a time capsule, that is worthy to take part in any major collection. These just don't come on the market very often, and when they do, they have been heavily modified and show mileage and wear that is cost prohibitive to restoration. This bike comes with a clean title, and a custom California plate that honors the race heritage of the XR legacy. It starts easily, and runs very well. It shifts through the gears exceptionally well, at ,legal speeds, or otherwise. The dual front disc brakes stop this racer in sheep's clothing with the haste one would come to expect from a specialized model of this breed. Please study the pictures. They depict the bike exactly as I received it. There is a small ding in the left side of the tank. There is a small scratch under the tail lamp. These are shown in the picture gallery. Chances are, you will not find a nicer, better running, or lower mile example XR anywhere for auction. Please ask any questions prior to bidding.
