BSA Lightning with what appears to be an older minor restoration.

To make the bike a little easier to start, I installed new Wassell Carburetors and a Wassell Vape Electronic Ignition System. The BSA 650 engines were infamous for wet sumping and this one was no exception. To solve the problem, I installed a new old stock high capacity oil pump. I’ve monitored the oil tank level for two weeks, and there is no noticeable loss from the oil tank… for now. If you were going to let the bike sit for more than two weeks, I would recommend draining the oil.

Other maintenance items include;

  • Installed new maintenance free battery

  • Replaced fuel lines

  • Adjusted the clutch

  • Set valve clearance

  • New valve and side cover gaskets

  • Polished primary and timing covers

  • All new screws installed on mid timing cover

  • New primary case oil drain seals and screws

  • Adjusted main drive chain

  • Changed engine oil, gearbox oil, and primary chaincase oil

  • Replaced crankcase oil screen

Please look at the photos closely to see condition of this BSA. This is not a perfect bike, but could be a good rider with a some work, or a candidate for a complete restoration. Unfortunately, my shop is a little too full at the moment. If you have any questions, I encourage you to ask away. There are no dumb questions :)
